You know when there is always something that you both love and hate in equal mesures, one of those things for me is E3!

I love it for all the news that comes out, the look forward to what I will be playing for the next year, getting to see the latest hardware. Conversely I hate it for exactly the same reasons, because there is just too damn much of it all coming out at once.

Even though I have gotten into the habit of preparing myself for the onslaught of news, it still catches me by surprise. For example I nearly missed the news about Playstation Plus getting an upgrade, I still have no idea what the hell Microsoft SmartGlass is meant to be beyond a copy of the Wii U GamePad & I never knew the Ubisoft could pull itself round and actually have a good showing this year.

Thankfully for me though, Alec-Ross Bower is a properly, serious journalist – he joined us over skype in order to provide he carefully trained view of the event. Really – He has physical written notes and everything.

The biggest game that made an impact on me this year at E3 was Watch Dogs. I like the idea of an open world game where you can control technology. Although I feel like the end product wont be as dynamic as the demo that was shown, I think it will be a fun game. I think that the demo shown was heavily scripted (as most demos :p) but the game has awesome potential. That is my contribution to the drinky talky thing.

I could just end there but I feel the need to speak about this years E3 more in depth. To be very honest, Im not sure if I have just become jaded or if I am out of touch with what people want. I think this years E3 was pure garbage. It seems that the gaming industry is in a funk. The industry seems to be stuck on sequels, prequels and have run out of ideas. Of course there are exceptions. I feel that E3 now means Excessive Explanation of Electronics.
Everyone seems to be saying how they will revolutionize the gaming industry…Its been going on forever, and this year Iv given up hope. I do not care about the Kinect, Gamers…. do not care about the Kinect. Although I know you guys love Nintendo (who doesn’t!) but I couldn’t care less about the Wii-U. My wii has collected dust for 2 years now. I don’t NEED an updated Wii with a tablet…I have a Wii..and a tablet…good enough for me. I do not want to play Batman Arkham City on a Nintendo Console. I want a genuine fun game….thats all. Not some gimmick.
Imagine this….Every year for the past 4 years you have gone to the annual car show. Each year you show up with the same car…..painted a different color, with different wheels, etc. To some people they simply lose their minds! But the genuine car lovers/mechanics/whatever catch on and know that you’ve just been rehashing the same old thing over and over again. This is where I feel we are as of now. (this also might be why garbage truck, ambulance, ship,baby, whatever simulator has not done well!) Its “the end of a console cycle” Iv heard it a lot lately. That doesn’t mean anything as of yet. Does that give publishers and Developers the right to keep making the same game over and over again. I have not mentioned any names because we all know what types of games i’m talking about.
Maybe all this will change with the next generation of gaming. I don’t know, but I sure as hell hope it does. Thank you for letting me rant.

On a completely different side note! I want Mr. Drunkengamer and Gow to know that I am on the opposite side of your view on playstation plus. If I had my choice I would stick with xbox (out of consoles). I pay my $$ to xbox live because I enjoy the service it provides…..letting me talk to my friends seamlessly and easily. I know it does not warrant $60 a year but that suits my needs perfectly. Playstation for me is my netflix box. I don’t have the time to play free PS1/2 games at the moment (and I wish I did!) but the service doesn’t appeal to me at all. As of late I have been on PC 100% and have neglected consoles due to my prior arguments. This all might make me sound like an entitled prick….and it most likely does…and i might be!!!! but I just feel that there is so much more to be done in the gaming industry and no one is taking it in the right direction. Anyway Love the show as always, you guys are awesome. look forward to future shows.
