Episode 40: Last Minute Co-Host

This is what life with the DrunkenGamer can do to your mind

This week unfortunately was one of those rare weeks where Gow could not make it. I personally think he went to the fair, but who can blame him toffee apples are quite the attraction.

However the podcast must go on, I really think that the compulsion to get an episode out each week is starting to border on the obsessive. Anyway I was out of luck arranging a co-host this week, Alec was working nights & Craig had previous commitments, So I set to the task of doing a solo podcast.

I even managed to get to the release date round up before realising I had an instant co-host sat less than 20 feet away. After weeks as only being the occasional background noise I managed to get Mrs DrunkenGamer (Jo) to sit close enough to the mic to be heard. She then deliberately tried to be silly but that was exactly I was expecting.

Anyway as always links to almost all the topics covered in tonight’s show are available after the jump.

Also as always we are still taking suggestions for the mid podcast songs. So if you have a suggestion for song to be included in the podcast then put it in the comments of this post or send them too @DrunkenGamer or @D_Gow . They will be put on the short-list and you will be mentioned in the podcast itself when played

Anyway enjoy this episode of the Drinky Talky Thingy.

Also for while now listeners have been asking for a way to buy us a beer and help us get drunk for their amusement, well now we have found a way. We have set up an Amazon wish list full of beer and sugary things that you can send to us (trust us were just as funny hyper as drunk). Anyone that does so can send any message with their beer and we will say it in the show. Amazon.co.uk: Drinky Talky Thing

Episode #38: DrunkenGamer is an idiot!!

Gow has developed a near sexual fascination with Llama's, I think I may need to get him some help!

Right time for a bit of honesty – we really are not in any way, shape or form professional when it comes to these podcasts. Though for any repeat listeners this is probably common knowledge by now.

The reason I mention that in this cast is that even after 38 episodes, I am still not even sure what we called the damn thing.

For all this time in all the posts and mentions of it I have been refering to it as the Drinky Talky Thing, yet apparently verbally in the podcast itself Drinky Talky Thingy is its name.  Admittedly its only a very subtle difference, but it is important none the less.

But the good news is that from here on in I will know the correct name and refer to it as such in all forms.

Episode #35: Politically Memetastic

Well we got every other meme into the podcast, you dont think we would leave out the Y U NO guy did you?

I don’t want to tell you how im feeling….sorry, I have that damn Rick Astley song stuck in my head as it has been a podcast full of meme’s.

From dramatic chipmunk to all your base, I would be surprised if we missed one. when were not wasting time on old meme’s we managed to get a bit of gaming news filled in from the free-to-play conversion of Star Trek Online to the beta of Diablo III, we even found time for a bit of piss-taking at Fox News expense.

As always links to almost all the topics covered are after the jump.

Episode 21: The one where Gow talks. Quickly.

Forever Alone
Gow - Forever alone. Well, at least until next week.

Well it was bound to happen. Paddy jumped ship (plane) and jetted across to the other side of the world leaving a geek with social problems in charge of the podcast… But what could go wrong?

It turns out a solo podcast is a tricky beast. Never again will I ridicule The DrunkenGamer’s monotone ramblings on the solo front, even if it does drone as much to put a caffeine fuelled, ADHD-suffering child to sleep. I hope you all enjoy, enough to make you want to come back next week when things will be back on track and the mighty duo will be back in full force. Note, by mighty duo, I mean myself and the DrunkenGamer – we’re not being replaced.

This week we’ve got a plethora of gaming news. So much more than we’d usually cover, purely for the fact that this podcast is waffle-free. It’s hard to waffle solo. Instead we have nothing but 58 (ish) news articles jammed into a little over an hour. Oh, and a song.

We’re still taking suggestions for the mid podcast songs. So if you have a suggestion for song to be included in the podcast then put it in the comments of this post or send them too @DrunkenGamer or @D_Gow . Episode #20: Random Curly Hairs & Sporadic Confusion

With her as the medic, I think I would get shot a lot more often

All I have to say about tonight’s podcast is that I have no idea where the random curly hair came from. It may have been what Gow thought it was it may have been something else, further investigation was not worth considering.

Strangely for the last two weeks both myself and Gow seem to have been more affected by the beer than normal.

We seem to go off track a lot more regularly each week than we did before, no that its a bad thing obviously. Some of our more entertaining stuff is when we go off on one.

Seems that Gows friends have also lost the plot again, I’m really not sure if some of the random words he had to fit in were even real words.

Anyway we managed to fit them in and between bouts of what I will henceforth classify as ‘podcast touretts’ we also managed to cover most of what is linked below.

We’re also still taking suggestions for the mid podcast songs. So if you have a suggestion for song to be included in the podcast then put it in the comments of this post or send them too @DrunkenGamer or @D_Gow . I Want One of Those!: DC Universe Online Reading List

We will probably never see a DC vs Marvel crossover, but if it happened I think the villain side of the story would be the most interesting

As I’ve already mentioned in the past I am a bit of a comic fan, but I’m also unfortunately rather a lazy one. Once upon a time I would be a regular at the local comic store, but those days are long gone.

However I am now in the process of rebuilding my graphic novel collection to bring me fully back up to speed with as much of the DC & Marvel universes as possible.  Last year I picked up a whole pile of ones I needed including a few surprising ones that I did not plan on picking up.

But that’s where the problem hits home you see, even being out of the loop for only a few years I’ve completely lost track of what forms part of the core universe for each. Obviously the newer titles are important, but obviously some of the older ones will have by now been retconned.

While this will not stop me wanting to read them, it would be good to put them on the back burner to get the important ones out of the way first.

For example, Spider-Man: Chapter One, which was supposed to ‘retell’ Spidey’s early years and an attempt at an interpretation of the character to modernise it. That series itself cause a few alterations to the Spider-Man cannon at the time, but I am aware that this series itself has been effectively subtracted as part of the Spider-Man lore so that its changes are completely undone.

It’s enough to make your head spin.

Thankfully however there has been some help for me at least when it comes the DC Universe. While Sony were working on DC Universe Online they had their own archive library, to be able to get all the characters and lore right for the game. While the library was very extensive it seems that they also had an internal ‘Essential Reading’ list.

Comic fan site Comics Alliance managed to get its hand on this 5 page reading list, which is incredible sight for people like myself wanting to catch up or anybody looking to get into comics properly for the first time. Below is a copy of the first page of that list, the rest of the pages can be seen over on their site http://www.comicsalliance.com/2011/01/11/reading-list-dc-universe-online/.

This has been saved to my machine to make sure I will be able to check it when needed. I have not used it just yet as I already have an active wish list set up that i want to clear off first (http://www.amazon.co.uk/wishlist/1QEGSVGPJQCN0 for anyone interested).

Now all I really need is a similar list for the Marvel Universe…..Hmm, I wonder if the guys at Gazillion or Cryptic have one? I shall have to enquire!
