Episode #43: Sporting a Moustache for Movember

I hope my Moustache is this epic by the end of Movember!

Well were here another week in and good news people, I did not have to record this episode of the podcast all alone. No, thankfully Gow was back this week.

However before we start on the podcast I want to take a bit of a detour. This month is most commonly known as November, however for the last few years it has been also known as Movember. This is due to a charity event aimed at raising awareness of men’s health, particularly prostate cancer, by having thousands of men worldwide grow a moustache.

Now normally I am fully bearded & Gow just simply does not seem to be able to grow facial hair at all, however we have both agreed to join in on this years event and will be growing moustaches for the cause.

If you want to help us in our good cause then you can donate to us for our madness at http://mobro.co/DrunkenGamer.

Anyway on to the podcast and as always links to almost all the topics covered in tonight’s show are available after the jump.

Also as always we are still taking suggestions for the mid podcast songs. So if you have a suggestion for song to be included in the podcast then put it in the comments of this post or send them too @DrunkenGamer or @D_Gow . They will be put on the short-list and you will be mentioned in the podcast itself when played

Anyway enjoy this episode of the Drinky Talky Thingy.

Also for while now listeners have been asking for a way to buy us a beer and help us get drunk for their amusement, well now we have found a way. We have set up an Amazon wish list full of beer and sugary things that you can send to us (trust us were just as funny hyper as drunk). Anyone that does so can send any message with their beer and we will say it in the show. Amazon.co.uk: Drinky Talky Thing

Episode #33: DRM free and with Llamas for all!

Llama, Llama, Duck

I always seem to come up with some excuse about why I can’t remember what was talked about less that 20 minutes ago – this week I am simply going to blame Gow.

He insisted on playing the damn Llama song right after we finished recording and now all that I can think of seeing to revolve around that song!

fortunately though, thanks to all the links below i know that we covered a great many topics such as the DRM issues of From Dust to the OnLive codes in Deus Ex: Human Revolution. We even managed to squeeze in some World of Warcraft, Diablo 3 and Battlefield 3.

As always links to almost all the topics covered are after the jump.

Also as always we are still taking suggestions for the mid podcast songs. So if you have a suggestion for song to be included in the podcast then put it in the comments of this post or send them too @DrunkenGamer or @D_Gow . They will be put on the short-list and you will be mentioned in the podcast itself when played

Anyway enjoy this episode of the Drinky Talky Thing.

I’m sure the Lord of Destruction would approve

From the way people are acting you I would not be surprised to find Kotick as the end boss of the next game, he's apparently far more evil than Diablo

Most times when I sit down and write these rambling posts I only have a passing idea as to what I am going to talk about.

However today there is only one topic that as both a gamer and a long time Blizzard fanboy that I honestly could talk about and that is the Diablo III news. It’s for that reason that I am going to scrap the 25 minute timer, as im pretty sure im going to go over it and keep going till I have said my piece.

A few days ago a whole bunch of websites were invited to Blizzard HQ for a press briefing and hands on with the latest build of Diablo III, however they were all under embargo until this morning. This means that the web has been awash with new information from the game.

unfortunately, as is always the case, because the web has altered our brains to make it hard for us to digest large amounts of information ast once most of the web has focused in on 3 elements of the news and gone batshit insane. Those 3 facts are these

1) Diablo III will have no Offline Mode
2) Diablo III will have no Mod system
3) The auction house in-game will support Real Money auctions

So taking a look at these in order

1) No Offline

Ok, I agree with all the fuss about this. Any game that includes a single player campaign should have an offline mode – there are no exceptions, no if, and’s, but’s or maybe’s. It simply should be there. I said much the same about Starcraft II when it came out. Their justification for it this time round is in part to tie in with point 3, they can’t let you real money trade items online that could have been duped in a modded/hacked offline version.

That argument doesn’t work for one simple reason – you don’t want that to happen you simply flag all items that drop in offline mode as such – then do not allow items with those flags to be sold in the system or even transferred to a character in an on-line game.

However the problem is we really lost our chance to fight this one, we let the thin end of the wedge get past when Starcraft II came past and we happily lapped up online only with only a measly cross game chat as the justification. Read More

League of Legends

League of Legends Drinking Game

League of Legends
But why does that guy get to be the lead? Just shut up and sing Dave!

On of my regular features in Thirteen1 Magazine are my monthly Drinking Games.

Each month I take a look at some of the games that have come out and think up drinking games that you can enjoy when your friends come over for a few beers and some gaming.

I have made these games now for over a year.

While they are always available over at Thirteen1, I am quite proud of them and have decided to move some of them here to my personal blog as well.

This was the first one that I published in the magazine, created when League of Legends was first in beta and was based (much like the game itself) on a drinking game I used to play with DotA.

Now I like to make my Drinking Games last, so when I refer to ‘A Drink’ I have a solid gulp of Guinness or other Beer. You can drink whatever you want but please use common sense – Particularly with my heavier games.

The Rules

Ok simple as it comes really. Fire up a new match, and line up a bunch of drinks ready. When certain events occur they are flashed on the screen these are your cues to drink.

When your champion is killed by another champion

1 Drink for the Killer
2 Drinks for the Victim

When your champion is killed by a minion/turret

1 Drink for the Victim

When one of your teams turrets is destroyed

2 Drinks for every member of your team

Optional Rules

While the rules above will do enough to get you very drunk on their own, some people don’t know when to call it quits. This game as a result has a couple of Optional Rules that you can choose to use.

If a champion gets the killing blow on the turret

Killer gets to pick a member of the opposing team, The selected Victim has 3 Drinks

Champion Levels up (Even I do not recommend this unless your clinically insane)

1 Drink per level up

And that’s all there is too it.

It is a very simple game, but the rate at which these events happen in a given match are quite regular (each team has 11 turrets for example in the Summoners rift map) As a result I classify this game as Extremely Heavy.
