Episode #35: Politically Memetastic

Well we got every other meme into the podcast, you dont think we would leave out the Y U NO guy did you?

I don’t want to tell you how im feeling….sorry, I have that damn Rick Astley song stuck in my head as it has been a podcast full of meme’s.

From dramatic chipmunk to all your base, I would be surprised if we missed one. when were not wasting time on old meme’s we managed to get a bit of gaming news filled in from the free-to-play conversion of Star Trek Online to the beta of Diablo III, we even found time for a bit of piss-taking at Fox News expense.

As always links to almost all the topics covered are after the jump.

Also as always we are still taking suggestions for the mid podcast songs. So if you have a suggestion for song to be included in the podcast then put it in the comments of this post or send them too @DrunkenGamer or @D_Gow . They will be put on the short-list and you will be mentioned in the podcast itself when played

Anyway enjoy this episode of the Drinky Talky Thing.

Also for while now listeners have been asking for a way to buy us a beer and help us get drunk for their amusement, well now we have found a way. We have set up an Amazon wish list full of beer and sugary things that you can send to us (trust us were just as funny hyper as drunk). Anyone that does so can send any message with their beer and we will say it in the show. Amazon.co.uk: Drinky Talky Thing

Its been a while since we built a beer tower during a podcast, but Gow just felt the need this week

Another week, another episode.

We are however getting a bunch of new visitors to the site recently so I should probably explain what it is.

I am Paddy ‘DrunkenGamer’ Fellows lead game reviewer at Thirteen1 magazine. My regular co-host is Dan ‘Gow’ Gowen who T1’s graphics guru for nearly 2 years.

Each week we get together and have a few beers while we talk about a bunch of the interesting gaming news, giving our take on events. Occasionally we will also be joined by our other friends for T1 and beyond.

Obviously having a bit of beer in us we do tend to lose track from time to time, but that is always fun.

If there is anything you here in the podcast that you want a little more detail on the links to all the sources we used are included here on the page after the player.

I think that about sums it up for now, there is nothing else to say but enjoy this episode of the Drinky Talky Thing!

Only Gow could be this bad at pouring a pint

Maybe I am just getting better at picking the news stories.
Perhaps there is just more news to cover.
More likely that we start drinking before the recording starts now.

Whatever the reason these podcasts are getting longer each week. This weeks nearly broke the 2 hour mark.

For that reason we would like to hear from any of our listeners.

If you think there is anything we could do better, anything we should perhaps cut, even anything you think we should add – leave us a message in the comments.

Now without further blurb, here is this weeks podcast

This is a crisis. A large crisis. In fact, if you got a moment, it's a twelve-story crisis with a magnificent entrance hall, carpeting throughout, 24-hour portage, and an enormous sign on the roof, saying 'This Is a Large Crisis'. A large crisis requires a large plan. Get me two pencils and a pair of underpants
A large crisis requires a large plan. Get me two pencils and a pair of underpants

Don’t be fooled by the images there is no crisis, I just had to get the images in there to solve one of the random words that Alec got asked to add. It was unfortunately too late for the recording but there was no way ‘Wibble!’ was going to be missed out.

As you may have already guessed, as well as the return of Gow to help round out the podcast, this week also saw a return Alec-Ross Bower. He joins us for the later part of the episode and has some very interesting things to say.

But the good thing about that image is that I also don’t need to do as much padding  :) So without further time-wasting, here is this episode

Bulletstorm Drinking Game

Hang on a minute, how the hell have I activated detective mode in Bulletstorm?

Oh boy, Fox News are not going to like this one bit.

Well, You know me I can’t let a good game go buy without at least trying to create a drinking game for it, particularly one that has been labelled ‘The Worst Game in the World‘. That’s just too much temptation, it’s a red rag to a bull.

So I have taken a look at the games multiplayer Anarchy Mode and found it to be extremely well set-up for a very simple drinking game, it’s almost as if the guys at Epic thought of this. I also couldn’t resist using some of the skillshot names for my rules.

As always with my drinking games, when I refer to a ‘Drink’ I personally have a solid gulp of beer so that I can enjoy my gaming for longer, but you all know your own drinking limits so it’s up to you what you choose to drink.

Rules

Gang Bang – Beat a wave score with over half the enemies remaining everyone has a drink at the end of the round

Floater – Player with the lowest number of skillshots at the end of a wave has a drink

Meat Slicer – Player with the highest contribution at the end of a wave can select someone else (other than the Floater) to have a drink

Voodoo Doll – If at any point you have to be revived have a drink (preferably while your down)

Mass Extinction – Beat 5 waves in a row without failing everybody has a drink

That’s It!

Told you it was a simple one, as with all shooter based drinking games the drinking level of this game will vary based on your skill with the game. However I am going to classify this one as a Extremely Heavy because I don’t want anyone coming and telling me I didn’t warn them that they would get drunk – I mean, who will think of the children? Kids as young as 20 could be reading this site……

Many enter, Only one can survive

WOW! Did I used to record these things on my own & sober?

With Gow away skiing in France & Craig living it up state-side at GDC – I was left completely without a co-host for the first time this year.

There were several people who offered to co-host, and I thank them all for their offers to help. Unfortunately being my last week at Omerta, I had to put in some extra time to get some things wrapped up. This meant a later than normal start to recording.

To everyone that offered I will contact you about co-hosting in the future as I have always thought about including guest hosts in the show.

So despite being shorter than normal and not really having as much randomness as normal – I hope you still enjoy this weeks episode.

So without further stalling, here it is.

This has nothing to do with the podcast, it just seemed like a good image

Well I would never have thought it possible if I had not actually experienced it.

Making a long overdue return to the podcast is our old friend Craig (aka TurkeySaladBoy) , seriously his presence has been missed.

I will in advance apologise for the slight audio issues in the second half of the podcast, so used to having only two people here for the recording I seem to have pulled the microphone too far forward.

This has resulted in a slightly echoed Gow for the second half of the podcast but he’s still understandable even when he tries to throw in his random Dutch words.

At this point in the intro however I am instantly regretting the choice of my podcast image for this episode as it seems there is a lot of space to fill in to make the podcast player fit into the post naturally.

But then that’s one of the good things about this site – I can admit when I messed up, so without out further stalling here is this weeks podcast.

The Fox news debacle rolls on still – first with yet another expert that fox asked in the bulletstorm story has come forward with the answers they provided, this guy was completely ignored but gave some damn fine answers.

Then it just gets silly, Fox makes another news item about the game not to fix its statement but to push its agenda further and to cap it all insinuates Rock, Paper, Shotgun has not been telling the truth.
